TERTULIA FULBRIGHT EXTRAORDINARIA 23 OCTUBRE 2024  19:00 horas

«The USA Presidential Elections».

Ms Jamie Martin, Press Attaché and Mission Spokesperson at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid.

The USA Presidential Elections are very close. The world is watching the process, trying to anticipate the results. Predictions are quite a complex process given the peculiarities of the American elections system, and, particularly this time, the special history and characteristics of the candidates.

With the US presidential elections just three weeks away and their worldwide  importance, especially for our Fulbright community, we are fortunate that the  Press Attaché and Spokesperson of the US Emabassy, Ms Jamie Martin, has  taken time in her busy schedule to meet with us and explain the procedures and special features of the US presidential elections. We invite you to come and spend a truly interesting evening.

This meeting will only be held in presential mode. If you wish to attend, please send an email message to angel.alvarez.rodriguez@gmail.com, and he will write to you with exact directions.

Ms Jamie Martin earned a Master of Science in Government with a focus on Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics, where she graduated with Merit. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Spanish from Bryn Mawr College.

Since joining the Foreign Service in June 2005, Jamie has managed diverse teams and developed programs across multiple geopolitical environments, including The Bahamas, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan. Her career highlights include leading crisis communications during a security incident in Spain, revitalizing the Integrated Country Strategy in the Bahamas, and expanding U.S.-UK partnerships through counter-extremism programs. The State Department has recognized her for her strategic and innovative efforts, particularly in areas requiring robust leadership and crisis management.

Before her tenure in Spain, Jamie served as the Cultural Attaché and Director of Programs and Exchanges at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium, from July 2019 to July 2022. Her leadership in this capacity involved coordinating responses to global challenges with EU partners, developing public engagement strategies to counter misinformation, and integrating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) principles into outreach programs. This role underscored her ability to forge strong transatlantic partnerships and enhance communication of U.S. foreign policy priorities.

Ms Jamie Martin embarked on her latest diplomatic mission as the Press Attaché and Mission Spokesperson at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain, in July 2022. In this role, she leads initiatives to enhance U.S.-Spain relations through strategic communication and public diplomacy. Jamie’s work in countering disinformation and promoting democratic values has significantly influenced public opinion and media narratives, further aligning with the strategic goals of the United States.
