The J.W. Fulbright Association was founded by alumni in 1990 to support the Fulbright program in Spain.  Two of its objectives are to help returning Spanish Fulbright alumni reintegrate into Spanish life after their stay in the U.S. and to welcome U.S. grantees when they arrive in Spain.  Major activities include a monthly guest speaker event known as the “Tertulia”, Christmas and summer banquets at the exclusive Madrid Country Club, and excursions, known as “National Encounters”.

Outreach to other alumni groups has been an important endeavor for the Association.  It organized the first large-scale international meeting of Fulbright alumni from Europe and Morocco in Toledo the summer of 2000. Shortly afterwards, it launched an alliance of alumni associations known as the Ryder Club. One of its benefits has been to provide a wider pool of people for each organization´s activities.  A major joint activity of Ryder is a dinner with every new U.S. ambassador.  The J.W. Fulbright association welcomes the members of other associations to its activities listed on the website: www.asoc-fulbright.es. On the occasion of the association´s 20th anniversary a book was published. It includes articles in English and testimonies by U.S. Fulbright alumni about how they benefited from the association´s support.  It may be downloaded at http://issuu.com/asoc-fulbright/docs/libro-fulbright-20-aniversario.
